Choose your article type
FULGME publishes the operational and administrative scholarship of GME. If your work makes a program run better, it belongs here. Pick the sentence that sounds most like your work.
Every type has the same 2,000-word limit. The title page, abstract, references, tables, and figure captions do not count toward it.
Draft each section
Use clear section headings throughout. The guide below fits research-style articles most closely, so take what applies to your type.
Introduction
State why the work matters. Summarize what is already known, name the gap your work addresses, and end with a clear statement of your objective.
Methods
Justify the approach or framework you chose. Describe the setting, participants, intervention, outcome measures, and how you analyzed the data. Give enough detail that another institution could repeat what you did.
Results
Report what happened, objectively. Include participant demographics, whether the work proved feasible, response rates, and the numbers behind any percentage. Report findings that went against you as well as those that went your way.
Discussion
Summarize the significant findings and put them in context. Address how far the results apply beyond your setting and anything in the study that could have influenced them. Consider other explanations. Close with what you would recommend to others.
Conclusion
A short summary of the key takeaways. No new material.
Paste the body of your article only. Leave out the title page, abstract, references, tables, and figure captions. Nothing you paste leaves this page.
Settle authorship early
Decide who is an author before you write the title page. Names and affiliations become part of a permanent, citable record, and changing them after publication requires a formal correction notice.
Did this person take an active part in the research, the writing, or the editing of the manuscript?
Choose an answer for each person who contributed.
- Every listed author is accountable for the content and has approved the version you submit.
- No one who helped is left out of both the author list and the acknowledgements.
- List each author's full name, credentials, institutional affiliation, and role exactly as they want them to appear permanently.
- Any individual you name in the article needs to give written consent.
Cite every number
Every factual or quantitative claim needs a reference. If you state a percentage, a count, or a finding from a survey or dataset, cite the source. This lets another coordinator check your numbers, build on your work, and cite you with confidence.
AMA style, the short version
- Number references in the order they first appear in the text, tables, or legends.
- Cite them in the text with superscript numerals.
- Abbreviate journal names using the MEDLINE format.
- List up to six authors, then et al.
- Use superscript letters for footnotes on tables and figures.
The full rules are in the AMA Manual of Style.
